This is especially true when working on systems like healthcare and financial assistance programs that directly, and often unproportionally, impact underrepresented and vulnerable people.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOver the last year and a half, Amy Ashida of 18F has been working with the \u003ca href=\"https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/2020/WorkGroups/Senate%20Appropriations/Presentations/W~Agency%20of%20Human%20Services~Integrated%20Eligibility%20and%20Enrolllment~1-16-2019.pdf\"\u003eState of Vermont’s Integrated Eligibility and Enrollment initiative (PDF, 6.7 MB, 47 pages)\u003c/a\u003e to develop an in-house user research practice. She’ll share recruiting and facilitation methods that helped get in-house research up and running, as well as lessons learned around recognizing and mitigating bias. Agencies looking to develop or grow their own user research practices will walk away with actionable steps to apply to their own research.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"speaker\"\u003eSpeaker\u003c/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAmy Ashida\u003c/strong\u003e is a service designer passionate about finding ways to align people, processes, and technology for public good. She has a background in digital product design and joined \u003ca href=\"https://www.gsa.gov/about-us/organization/federal-acquisition-service/technology-transformation-services/18F\"\u003e18F\u003c/a\u003e, an office within the \u003ca href=\"https://www.gsa.gov/tts/\"\u003eTechnology Transformation Services\u003c/a\u003e (TTS) at the U.S. General Services Administration, in 2018.
