Challenge and Prize Community Spotlight Chat with the Small Business Administration

Spotlight Chats are a series of moderated discussions with innovation leaders across government highlighting success stories and lessons learned. In this event, members of the planning group for the Lab-to-Market (L2M) Inclusive Innovation Ecosystem Prize Competition will describe their journey through design and implementation. They will also share best practices and considerations when organizing similar competitions and selecting prize winners.

The panelists include planning group members from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI)– one of three federally funded research and development centers of the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), a non-profit corporation that assists the federal government in addressing national security issues.

Following the discussion, the panelists will respond to your questions. Please register to submit your questions in advance.

At the end of this session you will have an understanding of one group’s journey through designing and implementing a prize competition and come away with practical tips and considerations when organizing similar competitions.

Speakers

Jarah Meador is the director of the Open Innovation Programs, including CitizenScience.gov and Challenge.gov.

Brittany Sickler serves as the Senior Innovation Policy Advisor for the Small Business Administration’s Office of Investment and Innovation.

Dr. Katherine Tyner is a current White House Leadership Development Fellow, performing her fellowship within the Office of Science and Technology Policy within the Executive Office of the President.

Vanessa Peña is a Research Staff Member at the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute.

Talla Babou is a Science Policy Fellow at the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute.

Tom Olszewski is from the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute. and is an expert in the areas of environment, ecology, energy, and quantitative analysis.

Note: Questions submitted through the registration process will be posed to the panel. All questions will be reviewed by the speakers, and five to seven will be selected for response during the session. The responses will be prepared in advance.
