The application \u003ca href=\"https://www.dol.gov/opa/media/press/opa/opa20111568.htm\"\u003ewon\u003c/a\u003e first place at the U.S. Department of Labor’s 2011 Occupational Employment Statistics Challenge. Data.gov was the subject of researchers Rashmi Krishnamurthy and Yukika Awazu in their \u003ca href=\"https://www.data.gov/meta/liberating-data-for-public-value-the-case-of-data-gov/\"\u003epaper\u003c/a\u003e, “Liberating data for public value: The case of Data.gov,” International Journal of Information Management (2016). \u003ca href=\"http://farmplenty.com/\"\u003eFarmPlenty\u003c/a\u003e, recipient of the USDA-Microsoft Innovation Challenge Grand Prize award, uses open government data to helps farmers better analyze U.S. Department of Agriculture data on crops grown within a five mile radius of their farms.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"image\"\u003e\n  \u003cimg\n    src=\"https://s3.amazonaws.com/digitalgov/_legacy-img/2016/05/600-x-333-Screencapture-FarmPlenty-Local-Crop-Trends-for-Almonds.jpg\"\n    alt=\"Screencapture of FarmPlenty Local Crop Trends for Almonds\"/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e\n\n\n\u003cp\u003eData.gov’s influence reaches across borders. The Data.gov Help Desk receives numerous requests from U.S. and foreign residents seeking open data insights, technical information, and advice on how to encourage their governments (national, state, local, and tribal) to introduce and improve their open data platforms.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe future of open data is promising because of the collaborative efforts of partners in the private and public sectors.
