Resources like the \u003ca href=\"https://playbook.cio.gov/\"\u003eDigital Playbook\u003c/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https://participation.usa.gov/\"\u003ePublic Participation Playbook\u003c/a\u003e have had impact helping agencies become user-friendly and both of these resources note the importance of developing usable products for mobile users.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMobile user experience \u003ca href=\"http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2012/07/elements-mobile-user-experience/\"\u003eencompasses the user’s perceptions and feelings before, during and after their interaction\u003c/a\u003e with a native app or mobile website. To help agencies, the \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/cm-topics-button-component/communities/\"\u003eMobileGov Community of Practice\u003c/a\u003e released 42 mobile user experience guidelines in 2013.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHowever, \u003ca href=\"http://www.infoworld.com/article/2610221/application-development/12-predictions-for-the-future-of-programming.html\"\u003emobile development is an ever-changing target\u003c/a\u003e and agencies need quick mobile development “do’s and don’ts” so we challenged MobileGov community members at events over the last six months to tell us the most important things agencies need to do when mobilizing their information, products and services. \u003cdiv class=\"image\"\u003e\n  \u003cimg\n    src=\"https://s3.amazonaws.com/digitalgov/_legacy-img/2015/07/600-x-400-Reference-Book-DenzilMann-iStock-Thinkstock-477170032.jpg\"\n    alt=\"Reference Book\"/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e\n\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe’ve turned the 42 into \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/cm-topics-button-component/resources/mobile-user-experience-guidelines/\"\u003esix guidelines\u003c/a\u003e and we’ve collected resources, tools and agency examples agency program managers and mobile developers can use to develop them.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 1\u003c/strong\u003e: Make sure your content is structured and chunked appropriately for multiple devices\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 2\u003c/strong\u003e: Follow industry user interface guidelines and government regulations (like 508) in the development of your mobile product\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 3\u003c/strong\u003e: Leverage the device’s features for usability and accessibility\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 4\u003c/strong\u003e: Test at multiple points in the design/development process\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 5\u003c/strong\u003e: Collect and use data (quantitative and qualitative) to determine what content your users want and where\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGuideline 6\u003c/strong\u003e: Develop security and privacy guidelines with regard to what the app does/how it protects user data and government systems\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese six guidelines are intended to help you keep your mobile websites and native apps out of the app graveyard.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe need you to help us add what you’ve done to create awesome mobile anytime, anywhere experiences.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eYou can also participate in the events the MobileGov Community of Practice will be hosting which will focus on each of these guidelines over the coming months.
