They are now using them to get novel solutions from non-standard solvers.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eChallenge and prize competitions are being used to frame future strategy. \u003ca href=\"http://www.rebuildbydesign.org/\"\u003eHUD’s Rebuild by Design\u003c/a\u003e and the \u003ca href=\"http://www.nei.nih.gov/challenge/\"\u003eNational Eye Institute’s Audacious Goals for Research\u003c/a\u003e are great examples of this.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGot code? \u003ca href=\"https://www.challenge.gov/list/?type=SoftwareApps\" title=\"Software and apps challenges on Challenge.gov\"\u003eChallenges are becoming a great source of code, apps, algorithms\u003c/a\u003e, and shared service IT solutions, resulting in significant cost savings.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003ePrize purses are increasing.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAgencies are forging new paths to post-competition success.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"solver-teams\"\u003eSolver Teams\u003c/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBeth Beck from \u003ca href=\"http://www.nasa.gov/offices/COECI/#.U435EPldWXE\"\u003eNASA\u003c/a\u003e talked about how to help teams form in challenge and prize competitions. Her advice was to remember that we all have some form of capital to bring to a team—intellectual, social, or physical.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOften, people think that only coders and technical people will be useful in competitions. But it is the designers, writers, and creative people that round out a team and even give an edge when it comes to presentations. His organization has tracked the long-term effects of innovation teams and the results compared to a general workforce addressing the same issues.
