Recent data report:\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Video is an extremely popular format for content delivery\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  45% of people watch more than an hour of Facebook or YouTube videos a week. (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics?_ga=2.249679876.343953886.1500564001-590678268.1447183119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eHubSpot, 2016\u003c/a\u003e )\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  82% of Twitter users watch video content on Twitter (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"http://www.insivia.com/27-video-stats-2017/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eBloomberg\u003c/a\u003e )\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  59% of executives agree that if both text and video are available on the same topic, they are more likely to choose video (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://mwpdigitalmedia.com/blog/10-statistics-that-show-video-is-the-future-of-marketing/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eMWP)\u003c/a\u003e .\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Among millennials, YouTube accounts for two-thirds of the premium online video watched across devices. (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics?_ga=2.249679876.343953886.1500564001-590678268.1447183119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eGoogle\u003c/a\u003e , 2016)\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  By 2017, video content will represent 74% of all internet traffic.  (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"http://www.kpcb.com/internet-trends\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eKPCB/Meeker, 2017\u003c/a\u003e )\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Video content increases engagement with target audiences\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  A Facebook video receives, on average, 135% more organic reach than a Facebook photo (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://www.socialbakers.com/blog/2367-native-facebook-videos-get-more-reach-than-any-other-type-of-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eSocialbakers\u003c/a\u003e , 2015).\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  People spend, on average, more than 3x more time watching a Facebook Live video than a video that’s no longer live (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2016/03/news-feed-fyi-taking-into-account-live-video-when-ranking-feed/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eFacebook\u003c/a\u003e , 2016); and Facebook users comment 10X more on live videos than they do on regular videos (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://newsroom.fb.com/news/2016/04/introducing-new-ways-to-create-share-and-discover-live-video-on-facebook/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eFacebook\u003c/a\u003e , 2016).\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Videos are 6X more likely to be retweeted than photos and 3X more likely than GIFs (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://marketing.twitter.com/na/en/insights/leaning-into-video-trends-on-twitter.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eTwitter\u003c/a\u003e , 2016).\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  People spend on average 2.6x more time on pages with video than without (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://wistia.com/blog/video-time-on-page?utm_content=buffer9b696\u0026utm_medium=social\u0026utm_source=twitter.com\u0026utm_campaign=buffer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eWistia\u003c/a\u003e )\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Including video in a landing page can increase conversion by 80% (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://www.eyeviewdigital.com/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eEyeView\u003c/a\u003e )\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Using the word ‘video’ in an email subject line boosts the open rates by 19% (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"http://syndacast.com/video-marketing-statistics-trends-2015/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eSyndacast)\u003c/a\u003e\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  52% of marketing professionals worldwide name video as the type of content with the best ROI (\u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"http://syndacast.com/video-marketing-statistics-trends-2015/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eSyndacast)\u003c/a\u003e .\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Video is also an excellent mechanism for providing technical assistance. A \u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"https://cft.vanderbilt.edu/guides-sub-pages/effective-educational-videos/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003e2015 article\u003c/a\u003e  from Vanderbilt University stated “several meta-analyses have shown that technology can enhance learning (e.g., Schmid et al., 2014), and multiple studies have shown that video, specifically, can be a highly effective educational tool (e.g., Kay, 2012; Allen and Smith, 2012; Lloyd and Robertson, 2012; Rackaway, 2012; Hsin and Cigas, 2013).” Furthermore, the National Teacher Training Institute \u003ca class=\"external-link\" href=\"http://www.thirteen.org/edonline/ntti/resources/video1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003ereports\u003c/a\u003e  that “teachers who use instructional video report that their students retain more information, understand concepts more rapidly and are more enthusiastic about what they are learning.”\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  To learn more about how to use video for health communications, read \u003ca href=\"https://www.cdc.gov/socialmedia/tools/guidelines/onlinevideo.html\"\u003eCDC’s video best practices\u003c/a\u003e for developing videos recommend you:\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Clearly define your objectives;\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Know your target audience;\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Determine moderating capacity; and\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Establish an evaluation plan.\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Furthermore, CDC’s best practices state that content creators should:\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Keep your video content simple, short, and engaging;\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Include a specific URL at the end of each video to guide the user to additional information; and\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Establish a promotion plan.\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\n  Here are a few things our HIV colleagues had to say about using videos in their work.\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"padding-left: 30px\"\u003e\n  Sarah Hashmall, Communications Manager at AIDS United, told us: “Videos are a great way to make content more accessible and inviting to a wider audience. Videos help people feel part of something bigger – and better convey emotion than text. We use video whenever we can get it. We frequently share videos from the CDC’s \u003ca href=\"https://www.cdc.gov/actagainstaids/\"\u003eAct Against AIDS\u003c/a\u003e campaigns. They do a great job jump starting conversations on Facebook and Twitter and convey great information – a total win/win for us.”\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp style=\"padding-left: 30px\"\u003e\n  William J. Nazareth, Jr, Director of Creative Media, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, said “As an LGBTQ focused community health center, Callen-Lorde understands that our communities access information in varying ways. With the growth of new media, it is vital that we meet people where they are in order to communicate in the most effective ways possible.
