Content modeling takes content items and breaks them down into smaller structures, called content types. These content types are defined by their attributes.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/topics/content-strategy/\"\u003eOpen and structured content models\u003c/a\u003e can help you create content that is platform-agnostic, format-free, and device independent. We need to stop creating fixed, single-purpose content and start making it more future-ready, flexible, and reusable. In the age of smartphones, tablets, social media tools, \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/2016/02/04/does-content-syndication-work/\"\u003esyndication\u003c/a\u003e, and websites, \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/2015/08/24/the-content-corner-modular-design-and-structured-content/\"\u003ethe need for modular content is growing\u003c/a\u003e.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cdiv class=\"image\"\u003e\n  \u003cimg\n    src=\"https://s3.amazonaws.com/digitalgov/_legacy-img/2014/05/600-x-285-Open-Content-Model-full-cropped.jpg\"\n    alt=\"Open Content Model mural\"/\u003e\u003c/div\u003e\n\n\n\u003cp\u003eThe goal of implementing content models is to have the ability to “create once and publish everywhere” (\u003ca href=\"http://www.programmableweb.com/news/cope-create-once-publish-everywhere/2009/10/13\"\u003eCOPE\u003c/a\u003e). Adopting content models can allow your content to be flexible enough to go wherever it is needed. Whether it is syndicated, viewed on a mobile device, or the data is pulled in by another application, it is flexible and therefore consumable.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"what-types-of-content-models-is-hhs-offering\"\u003eWhat types of content models is HHS offering?\u003c/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHHS currently has over 20 models—and the list continues to grow as the site advances. In an effort to promote collaboration and help others utilize content models, \u003ca href=\"https://github.com/HHS\"\u003eHHS is sharing some of their content models via GitHub\u003c/a\u003e. A feature is a collection of Drupal entities which taken together satisfy a certain use-case.”\u003c/em\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e—\u003ca href=\"http://drupal.org/project/features\"\u003eDrupal.org\u003c/a\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA \u003ca href=\"https://www.drupal.org/project/features\"\u003efeature\u003c/a\u003e is a collection of Drupal configurations that are intentionally grouped together to facilitate a particular use case. These configurations can be used for content type declarations, views, module settings, and roles and permissions, among other things.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe content models’ related Drupal features are also being shared, so, if you are running a Drupal site and are looking for a simple way to implement a content model, this is the place for you.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"whats-the-catch\"\u003eWhat’s the catch?\u003c/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAbsolutely nothing! HHS is happy to share our efforts in the spirit of collaboration and the hopes that folks will start putting their content in models as well.
