Facebook holds the top two spaces with Facebook and Messenger.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe top categories of apps that are most popular can be broken down into three buckets:\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003col\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSocial media/Messaging (Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Instagram)\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStreaming media (Pandora, Google Play, Apple Music)\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUtility apps (Google Drive, Gmail, Google Maps)\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ol\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe range of penetration for the top 15 apps varies widely, from Facebook’s highest app penetration of 76.8%, to the lowest penetration (of the top 15 apps), Twitter, holding 24.5%.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eJust to reiterate that: the 15th \u003cstrong\u003emost popular\u003c/strong\u003e application in the United States only has a 24.5% penetration.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGovernment agencies should consider this when debating a responsive Web vs app strategy, and \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/topics/mobile/\"\u003efollow DigitalGov for more mobile trends and information\u003c/a\u003e—as well as join the new \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/topics/mobile/\"\u003eMobileGov Community of Practice Listserv\u003c/a\u003e, which had a very lively debate this past week over native app vs. responsive Web strategy.\u003c/p\u003e\n"}
