The app can also send notifications to remind users to consume items before they are likely to spoil.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe app lets users:\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFind specific storage timelines for the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry, depending on the nature of the product;\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eGet cooking tips for cooking methods of meat, poultry and seafood products;\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eNote in your devices’ calendar when products were purchased and receive notifications when they are nearing the end of their recommended storage date;\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSearch the application with swipe gestures or voice control; and,\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSubmit a question to USDA using the “\u003ca href=\"http://www.fsis.usda.gov/wps/portal/informational/askkaren\"\u003eAsk Karen\u003c/a\u003e” feature of the application. The ‘Ask Karen’ system provides information about preventing foodborne illness, safe food handling and storage, and safe preparation of meat, poultry, and egg products.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eStorage times listed are intended as useful guidelines and are not hard-and-fast rules. Some foods may deteriorate more quickly, while others may last longer than the times suggested.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe FoodKeeper was originally a publication containing valuable advice to help consumers understand the shelf life of products when stored in the pantry, refrigerator or freezer.
