And all of us look forward to pay day.\u003c/strong\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf you work for the Department of Defense, the Executive Office of the President, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Energy, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Health and Human Services or the Broadcasting Board of Governors, chances are that you are one of 6.6 million people paid by the \u003cstrong\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/pressroom/aboutdfas.html\"\u003eDefense Finance and Accounting Service\u003c/a\u003e\u003c/strong\u003e (DFAS).\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThat’s A LOT of paychecks.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2012, the digital team at DFAS saw a trend. As much as 15% of the traffic to their website was coming from people using smartphones and other devices to do things like \u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/mypayinfo.html\"\u003echeck their pay\u003c/a\u003e (current and retiree), \u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/correctmilitaryrecords.html\"\u003ecorrect their military records\u003c/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/debtandclaims.html\"\u003eget advice on debt and bankruptcy\u003c/a\u003e. The team, led by website program manager Debra Fioritto, decided to embark on a major redesign to optimize their site for a variety of screen sizes and types.\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFast forward to May 2014 and a \u003cstrong\u003enewly launched, mobile-friendly\u003c/strong\u003e \u003cstrong\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil\"\u003ewww.dfas.mil\u003c/a\u003e\u003c/strong\u003e. Boasting a \u003ca href=\"/preview/gsa/digitalgov.gov/bc-archive-content-3/2014/03/24/why-go-responsive-heres-what-feds-are-saying/\"\u003eresponsive design\u003c/a\u003e, the site helps four main categories of users:\u003c/p\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/mypayinfo.html\"\u003eManage their MyPay accounts\u003c/a\u003e right from the homepage;\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/debtandclaims.html\"\u003eMake online debt payments\u003c/a\u003e;\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/dfas/civilianemployees/travelpay/wheretosubmit.html\"\u003eSubmit travel expense claims\u003c/a\u003e; and/or\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eFind DFAS social media channels and \u003ca href=\"http://www.dfas.mil/customerservice.html\"\u003ecustomer service\u003c/a\u003e contact information.\u003c/li\u003e\n\u003c/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe responsive architecture eliminates the need for manually “pinching” or pulling the screen to view all the content. It also benefits DFAS content managers by offering a more streamlined and efficient Web posting process behind the scenes.
